With any kind of change in the weather, people usually get affected by several types of allergies. Sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes are the most common types of allergies which tend to happen in this regard. Sometimes, this pressure on sinus area can lead to the pain in upper back teeth.

Now, you may want to go to the dentist to get your toothache due to sinus pressure treated but you may not be aware that the pain you have is actually due to sinus allergy. The one thing that you will be concerned about is going to be that you want to get relief from the toothache regardless of why it is happening.

Who should you go for – Dentist or Doctor?

While having this kind of pain, you may wonder if it is a dental issue or an overall health problem. If you are not sure even after looking at the symptoms, you need to start with the dentist because you want the toothache treated first. The dentist is going to run several diagnostic measures such as x-rays and other tests to check if you grind your teeth, you have a cavity, you have a tooth abscess, or you have a jaw problem that is causing this entire problem.

If your dentist tells you that you have nothing to worry about in terms of dental health, you need to visit the doctor. The doctor is going to check if the problem is due to sinus pressure. If this is the case, you will be given antibiotics and other treatments to help get rid of the sinus problem.

Getting relief from the pain

The pain and pressure on the teeth due to sinus problem is usually dull. However, this dull pressure can sometimes turn into pretty severe pain in the roots of the teeth. To get rid of this condition, you essentially need to stick with the prescribed treatment which mainly involves intake of antibiotics which reduce the allergic severity. However, you need to visit the dentist if the pain is not reducing after getting treatment for sinus problem.

Having that said, it would be worth mentioning that you also need to take into consideration the reasons for toothache. Cracks and chips in the back teeth can lead to pain and discomfort. Moreover, an abscess can be the very reason for the toothache. The matter of fact, the pain due to abscess in the back teeth usually exists in the same area that hurts due to sinus pressure. If this is the case, you can get the abscess removed with the help of a root canal therapy.

Another reason for the pain in the back teeth may be the problem with the jaw. This condition is normally called TMD, and it occurs due to malfunctioning joints that connect lower jaws with the upper scull. The reasons for this problem mainly include bite issues and teeth grinding. Again, you will have to visit the dentist to get your problem sorted out.
